The Northern Illinois Drag Boat Association:
The NIDBA began this association because, simply put, we love drag boat racing! We are interested in furthering the popularity of this sport, and we want to provide a knowledge base as well as share information with our fellow racers and racing enthusiasts with what we’ve collectively learned about motors, boats, and safety equipment.
Also, in order to continue to race at Blarney’s Island, we needed to have a sanctioning body. To answer that need, the NIDBA was formed. We’re just a group of experienced racers who want to further promote the safe experience of drag boat racing here in Northern Illinois. Even if you do not race…the races are fun to watch! Check out our upcoming events for racing dates and times.
Now entering its 36th season, Blarney Island on Grass Lake (Antioch, IL) is the only location in the world where high performance drag boat racing takes place every Thursday Evening, from Memorial Day to Labor Day. This is bare-knuckles, heads-up, ‘race-what-you-brung’ drag racing. The racecourse length is approximately 800 feet and it is located on an open lake. The notoriously choppy waters have given Blarney Island racers a reputation for being both fast and fearless.
We are happy to be a resource in assisting you with becoming a member, learning the racing rules and other boating regulations. Please contact us if you have any questions or are interested in being a part of the NIDBA.
